Man oh man did I need a haircut! Well for me when it starts showing over the temple pieces of my glasses-that is long. For many not a problem, but for me it is time to get the hair cut.
The weather was nice, springtime in the Rockies, so I decided to walk the half mile or so. Not far at all-good to exercise the old ‘bod’ again. I was out the door and down my apartment complex hallway when I remembered my telescopic stun baton was back in my apartment.
I almost kept going but habits sometimes are hard to break. I had been preaching to “never leave home without it” just like the green credit card. So I went back and attached it to my belt.
On my way back from the haircut I saw a pit bull roaming loose about a hundred yards away. I stopped to see what he was up to. He saw me and started charging my way.
My fear of dogs goes back decades to a time when yours truly broke up a fight between two pet dogs in my house. It cost me a trip to the hospital, a rabies shot, and 140 stitches. It was a terrifying experience then one never to be forgotten.
I unstrapped the stun baton from the holster and held it in my hand until I could determine if the dog was indeed after me. He was.
I held up the baton and pressed the button which telescopes the baton from 13 inches to 21.5 inches and electrifies the eight inch extension. When that happens, the sight and sound of a charging stun baton or stun gun produces a scary sight and sound. It is like saying “do want a bite of this?”
The pit bull saw and heard it and stopped dead in his tracks about fifteen feet from me.
He may have experienced the joy of 800,000 volts being applied to his nose before-who knows? He stopped his attack-good enough for me.
One lesson here is that danger can present itself any time, anywhere. It is better to be prepared than be sorry. Carry a self defense product like a stun gun, pepper spray or personal alarm with you or have one available at all times.
Dog attacks are becoming an increasingly large problem in the U.S. with thousands requiring hospitalization. All of this because those dog owners are irresponsible and don’t have their ‘pet’ on a leash.
I admit to a certain bias but dogs are animals and as such have instincts to attack and bite.
The telescoping stun baton is an equally effective self defense tool against two legged ‘animals’ too.
Stun weapons are illegal in some states. Check with your local law enforcement office to see if your state is one of them. In those states only criminals are allowed to have weapons.
