Quick And Easy Halloween Treats

If you are planning to treat children coming to your door as trick or treaters, you have probably not thought beyond the traditional mints, hard candies, and miniature candy bars. If you have decided to do something different this year, you can use these tips to choose treats that will be enjoyed by the night’s visitors to your door.

* For years, Halloween candy has been the treat of choice by children, but in fact, many parents prefer to monitor their child’s intake of candy and parcel out the trick or treat gatherings over the weeks following the collection. Since many parents often discard candy and other treats that are not commercially packaged, you probably shouldn’t plan to spend a lot of time of fancy treats to distribute to small visitors. However, if you are hosting a part for a group of adult friends, you can decorate with edible designs such as candy cats, witches hats and black cats.

* At your Halloween party celebration, you can put your creative skills to work in preparing and decorating treats such as cupcakes and cakes. Use traditional Halloween colors and symbols to make your treats be noticed. Bats, black cats and witches hats are tradition, but why not make your cake with candy gravestones complete with humorous epitaphs. Ghostly wisps of fog will add to the ambiance of your party treats. For imaginative twists on the cakes try a pumpkin or spice cake rather than a more traditional chocolate or yellow cake. You can vary the decorations by flavor and color. Think about texture variations in your treats, as well.

* Today, many people are interested in healthy foods, even during the traditional overdose on candy season. Choose treats that are made with whole grains or that include dried fruits to add flavor and nutrition to the treats. Take advantage of the end of harvest connections to choose snacks incorporating nuts and grains. If you prepare cupcake sized nut loaves, with a cashew butter topping, your guests will have great treats without the sugar high you get with more traditional Halloween party fare. Try to prepare treats that will provide a flavor counterpoint to the sweeter traditional foods.

* Halloween is the best time of year for spicy and hot drinks. Use combinations of apple, spice, citrus and other flavors to form a great counterpoint to the heavier foods that you serve for the party treats. If you prefer, a spicy herbal tea is refreshing and is easy to prepare and serve to guests or family members. Think variety and warmth and your liquid refreshment choices will be just as popular as the imaginative and healthy treats that are offered to guests.

It can be fun to incorporate creative ideas into the Halloween treats that you prepare. Using traditional colors and symbols in your treats in new and creative ways can make the difference between boring and brilliant. Try out some of the treats on your family and friends and they will praise you for it.
