How To Wear Stylish Cropped Trousers

Capri trousers are a style trend which has been around since the late 1940s when Sonja de Lennart included them with her Capri range. Made famous by celebrities such as Audrey Hepburn in the film Breakfast at Tiffanys the style has been renamed and updated over the years and remains at popular today as ever before.

Classical Capri pants are tailored cropped trousers which have hems at mid-calf while more recent trends have seen the inclusion of less formal styles with drawstring around the hem. This style is also referred to as clam diggers, and as the name suggests are worn by folk who gather clams from the low tidal waters, hence the necessity to have trousers which won’t get wet!

Pedal pushers are yet another version of Capri pants. These tend to finish just below the knee rather than mid calf and are often an overall tighter fit than classical Capri style.

The classical style is chic and elegant and look amazing when teamed with a navy and white horizontal stripped top and flat ballerina pumps. For the Audrey Hepburn look don’t forget the large black sunglasses!

They are the ideal summer item which is a great alternative from full length trousers or shorts. Making them a perfect choice for those who have large thighs or those who don’t like their knees!

Women who have short legs need to be careful as cropped trousers can make your legs appear even shorter! However, those with a short leg length can rejoice knowing that a number of high street and online fashion retails have cropped trousers which have been designed especially for them!

If you have thick ankles you may find that wearing a small wedge sandal or heels will look better than flat pumps, as the added height will make the ankles appear slimmer.

Plus size petite women should also opt for tailored cropped trousers as the clam digger styles can crate a rectangular block appearance which is not very flattering and will only make them look dumpy and heavier, particularly around the hips and bottom. Straight leg styles also work well for women with large hips and bottoms as the flared versions can also make you look very rectangular and accentuate your problems areas rather than flatter them

Choose darker colours such as classical navy or dark blue to make you appear slimmer or opt for white for a really summery look. Capri pants are not know for being patterned, however some designers have used the style and created patterned cropped trousers! Be careful if you opt for these as they can also make you look much larger especially if they are brightly coloured and have large prints!

Capri or cropped trousers are ideal for women who wear large clothes as they offer a chic and elegant style which is suitable for all different occasions and a great alternative to shorts this summer.
